JLP Driving School is an independent driving school based in Ashford in the heart of Kent and is run by instructor Josh Payne.

 

As a people person and an individual who enjoys helping individuals to achieve their goals, Josh made the career change from a desk job to driving instructor in 2010 and has never looked back. He undertook the steps needed to become an approved driving instructor by connecting with a reputable driving school and passing the three-part qualification on the first attempt and became one of the school’s instructors. Following this initial qualification, Josh quickly extended his certification to become a Pass Plus Approved Driving Instructor, allowing him to teach driving skills beyond the standard driving test. Pass Plus is a practical training course for drivers who wish to improve their driving skills and drive more safely, which can only be taught by Pass Plus Approved Driving Instructors. Josh remained with the driving school for a considerable time, becoming one of the school’s longest-serving instructors.

 

Over time, Josh recognised that most of his new students connected through word of mouth recommendations. It was at this point that Josh decided it was time for a new challenge, to start an independent driving school of his own, and he began JLP Driving School.

 

Through his independent driving school, Josh is able to provide a truly personal approach as he handles all aspects of your experience, from your initial communication through shaking your hand when you pass. This streamlined business provides greater flexibility around students needs regarding pickup/drop off points and timing. It also keeps lesson fees competitive and allows for incentive schemes, all whilst still providing students with the quality that Josh is so often recommended for.

As a qualified driving instructor, Josh has to keep up to date with all the latest rules and regulations from the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) which he does through regular meetings with the examiners and DVSA representatives. He also undertakes periodic examinations which are put in place by the DVSA to ensure that Approved Driving Instructors are teaching to the required standard. On Josh’s last Standards examination, he was given an A grade; the highest possible award.

 

JLP Driving school is pleased to offer competitive driving tuition across Ashford extending to surrounding villages (up to 10 miles from the town centre). JLP Driving School also reaches out westwards as far as Tenterden, Biddenden and Headcorn. Having taught in the Ashford area since 2010, Josh has extensive knowledge of how to make the most of the location during driving lessons to fully benefit students. Regularly described as very approachable, friendly and calming Josh makes sure that his pupils are put at ease from the very beginning. Lessons are structured with a balance of coaching and instruction. Overall, Josh feels that there are two main factors which create a good driving lesson, both centred around the student’s experience. The student should feel that:

 

• They have gained new skills and knowledge by the end of each lesson

• The process of learning to drive is an enjoyable experience.
